OUR STORY

How it all started...

What began as a vision of a small group of people has seen many lives changed through the grace of God. In 1958 the group met in a small house situated on the current property. Then in the early sixties they began construction on a two story brick building with a new sanctuary upstairs and Sunday School classrooms downstairs. This building now serves as our nursery, pre-school and youth classrooms on Sunday mornings. In 1973 the new sanctuary was completed for Easter services and the basement fellowship hall was finished months later. In 2003 we received a gracious gift to remodel the sanctuary and update the foyer. Since then we have added the Annex, the corner lot with the picnic shelter, and the mission’s house on the corner of 23rd and 12th. In 2007 we purchased the little green house and garage, which now houses our offices, and the gravel parking lot.

Through many years of devoted prayer, service and God’s faithfulness, Emmanuel Baptist Church has grown into a thriving church that ministers locally and around the world.

Our church has never been about building a big church; instead, we build big people.

Our Mission:
To Make Disciples Who Make Disciples.

A disciple is a follower of Jesus. We make disciples. Three key words summarize what that looks like: we connect, grow, and make a difference. God calls every Christian to be a disciple and to make disciples. We want to build big people and allow God to build His church.

How do we make disciples?

We Connect.

We want to connect with God and others. We believe a person becomes connected through daily time spent with God and regularly engaging in church services.

We Grow.

Our goal is that you would continue to grow in your walk with God. In our church, one of the ways we disciple people is through 'Groups.'

We Make a Difference.

The church is called to make a difference in this world. As Matthew 5 encourages, we want to be a light in the darkness in our homes, churches, and around the world.

Our Values

1. We are a church that believes the Bible and teaches the Bible.

The Bible is the infallible  and inspired Word of God. We teach using the whole counsel of the Bible and we are committed to applying it as Truth in every area of life. (2 Timothy 3.16-17)

2. We are a church that communicates a timeless message in a today way.

The church should be culturally relevant while remaining doctrinally pure. Our methods take the culture in which we live into consideration, and thus, they evolve; but the message remains the same. (1 Corinthians 9.19-23)

3. We are a church where all generations can experience the presence of God.

Each generation matters to God and a church that has every generation is very blessed. A healthy church knows the importance of reaching the younger generation, especially children & youth. (Acts 2.17, Matthew 19.14)

Everyone experiences the presence of God in different ways. Though style and other preferences are subjective, each person makes a choice of whether or not to pursue God. (John 4.23)

4. We are a church with a culture of gratitude, generosity, and honor.

Gratitude should be felt and expressed. Unexpressed gratitude is ingratitude. Unexpressed gratitude creates a deficit in me and around me. (Colossians 3.17) Generosity is about love and giving without expecting anything in return. The attitude of generosity is love, and the key to love is selflessness. The action of generosity is giving, and the key to giving is openhandedness. (2 Corinthians 9.11-12, Matthew 5.48) Your time, your talent, and your treasure...these are the greatest resources that God has entrusted you! Honor can be and should be practiced whoever you are and however you find yourself. Finally, the attitude and action of generosity is rooted in Biblical Stewardship, which begins with tithing. (Malachi 3.8-10, Numbers 18.24,26, 2 Chronicles 3.15, 2 Corinthians 9.6-8) Honor is focusing the attention on someone else through inward esteem and outward expression, privately and publicly. We must discover and call attention to people that should be honored. (Romans 12.9-10, 13.7)

5. We are a church that believes smaller groups are vital for life change.

God uses people to grow us and He uses us to grow other people. Groups help us to grow in three key relationships: intimacy with God (Romans 8.38-39), community with those in the church (Hebrews 10.24), and influence with those outside the church. (Galatians 5.13-14)

6. We are a church that raises up leaders for the church  and community.

We believe the church is commissioned to train and equip the people in the church to do the work for the Lord. Every believer is called to ministry, in the church and in the community. (Ephesians 4.12) We are passionate about seeing people step into full potential of who God created them to be. (Matthew 6.33)

7. We are a church that is committed to reaching the lost locally and globally.

Lost people matter to God and therefore ought to matter to us! (John 3.16) We are to be God's representatives in the world. (Matthew 28.19-20) Evangelism is primarily a relational process. People are brought to Christ primarily through relationships they have with a Christian and a church. (Luke 7.34)

Our Beliefs

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Revelation

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself.

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Resurection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.
